Purpose
Oxidation for Corrosion Resistance : The Fe304 (magnetite) layer acts as a
barrier against moisture and oxidation.
Aesthetics : Provides a professional, uniform blue-black finish (similar to gun
blueing).
Wear Resistance : The oxide layer can retain oil better than bare steel, reducing
friction in moving parts.
Porosity Sealing : In powdered metallurgy (sintered parts), the steam fills the
internal pores, increasing the density and compressive strength of the part.
